Save Money With Used Cell Phones

by David Kraft

There is no denying how neat and functional a Blackberry cell phone is. The phones are pretty amazing and can do more than some computers...plus they can make phone calls. All of this technology, however, doesn't come cheap. Blackberry phones are expensive if you buy them new and thier high price often keep them out of reach for a number of people. Thankfully, another option exists - purchasing a used Blackberry cell phone.

If you decide to go the used cell phone route, you'll quickly be amazed at the number of phones available. The used market has more in it than phones that are 4 or 5 years old. In fact, you can often find even the newest models in the used market for cheaper prices than you'd pay at a cellular service provider.

Once you have a new (used) phone, the next thing you need to do is activate it. Activating your used phone is simple and not nearly as complicated as cellular providers will have you believe.. In most cases, you can simply take the SIM card out of your old phone and put it in your new one. In other cases, you'll need to call customer service for your cellular provider, but even that won't take nearly as long as it would to go in to the store or kiosk near you. You may even be able to do it online.

Purchasing a used cell phone is also good for the environment. Cell phones have toxic chemicals and materials inside of them (e.g. batteries) that can work their ways in to the soil and water when phones are sent to landfills. These toxic chemicals then end up being ingested by wild animals who suffer. Purchasing a used phone keeps that phone from the landfills and can help save plants and animals from harm.

Have you ever noticed that the great deals that cellular companies offer on new phones are only available if you sign a long term contract with them? They offer the great deals on the phones because they know they'll be collecting money from you for the next couple of years or will be able to charge you a huge fee to end the contract early. If you've ever had to get out of a contract early, you know that it isn't fun. Early cancellations generally cost upwards of $200. This is another reason that used cell phones are so great - since you'll already have a phone, the provider will have no way to trap you in a contract, giving you the freedom to do as you please.

Saving money is great, especially in these tough times. When you can save money and stil get what you want, it's even better. Such is the case with used cell phones - they offer you the ability to get the technology you want for a fraction of the retail price.
